Top 5 Upcoming RPGs Of July 2018

It’s been a super packed month for June, as E3 2018 kicked off revealingsome upcoming RPGsheading our way this year as well as for 2019. However, it’s left a RPG shaped hole for the month of July. But not to fear, we’ve scoured the interwebs to bring you some top titles with a mix of action, turn-based strategy and adventure that will be coming out in July 2018.

Honorable Mention - Warhammer 40,000 Inquisitor Martyr Console Release

Release Date: July 5th, 2018

Platform:Xbox One and PlayStation 4

Developer: Neocore Games

Publisher: Neocore Games

WhileWarhammer 40k: Inquisitor Martyr was set to release on all platforms last month, there was a delay for the console versions. We get a new release date for PS4 and Xbox One for this action RPG, which sets to bring interesting features such as a cover system, destructible environments and brutal combat.

Set in the future of the 41st Millennium things have taken a grim turn as heretics, mutants, the treacherous xenos and daemons of the Chaos Gods have taken over. In this open-world sandbox game, take on missions, combat and use tactical skills to overcome your enemies.

Warhammer 40k: Inquisitor Martyr will be arriving on Playstation 4 and Xbox One on July 5th and currently already available to play on PC via Steam.

5. Defiance 2050

Release Date: July 13th, 2018

Platform: PS4, Xbox One, PC

Developer: Trion Worlds

Publisher: Trion Worlds

Defiance 2050 is actually a remake of the 2013 sci-fi shooterMMOalso known as Defiance. This free-to-play action game combines a first person shooter with RPG elements. It will be getting it’s launch in July, but had it’s open beta from June 22-25th. The original focused on a third person, open-world shooter where players play as Ark Hunters, Defiance 2050 sets to adapt the game for the next generation. A graphics overhaul as well as game systems are some of the major changes that the game has gone through.

Players will get to choose from four classes which include assassin, guardian, combat medic and assault. Each have their own focus and players will be able to level up abilities to suit their play-style. Choose from a range of fully customisable weapons and delve into a post apocalyptic, futuristic fantasy world that is fast action-paced and has an intriguing sci-fi storyline.

4. Adventure Time: Pirates of the Enchiridion

Release Date: July 17th, 2018

Platform: PS4, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch

Developer: Outright Games

Publisher: Cartoon Network

Fans of the the Cartoon Network series Adventure Time will be happy to know that there is an open-world turn-based RPG called Adventure Time: Pirates of the Enchiridion coming out this July. Your favourites Finn, Jake, BMO and Marceline will all be in the new Adventure Time: Pirates of the Enchiridion which is an adventure game…well it wouldn’t be Adventure Time if it weren’t an adventure! Players will follow main characters who venture through the Land of Oooo which has been flooded adding mystery and intrigue to find the root of the problem.

The game let’s players explore the the world, discover secrets and collect loot. Upgrade your heroes using a range of items, spells, potions and unique ultimate hero abilities. All characters are voiced by the original cast from the series.

Adventure Time: Pirates of the Enchiridion is coming to PC, PS4, Xbox One and Switch on July 17th, 2018.

3. The Banner Saga 3

Release Date: July 25th, 2018

Platform:PS4, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch

Developer: Stoic

Publisher: Versus Evil

The third instalment in the strategic Viking RPG series, The Banner Saga 3 will conclude in it’s dramatic final chapter. An indie RPG in a hand-drawn art style, The Banner Saga 3 will test you in a world that continues to crumble around you, learn to protect your allies as you decide who you’re able to trust. In the finale of the trilogy, the dark force has taken over the once beautiful painted scenery.

Players will be able to to choose new playable characters to join their party and take advantage of new upgrade options as they progress in battle. Enjoy deeper strategic combat with the new battle wave system, which let’s you face a myriad of enemies. More customisation is available with the choice of valka spear and heroic titles to suit everyone’s playstyle. Choices made in previous Banner Saga 1&2 will be carried over, meaning you may continue your adventure where you left off, driving your own narrative which can lead to different endings.

2. Octopath Traveler

Platform: Nintendo Switch Exclusive

Developer: Square Enix, Acquire

Publisher: Nintendo

Octopath Traveleris a retro styledturn-based RPGthat follows the story of eight unique characters, each of which has their own adventures and abilities. Set to launch exclusively for theNintendo Switch,Square Enixhas created a game that can be played both in handheld mode or docked mode (console format).

In this nostalgic RPG, players will feel the retro vibes from games such as early Final Fantasy as the graphic style, mechanics and layout of menus will feel rather familiar. You can have up to four characters in your active party at one time. In true turn-based form, you will get a chance to use abilities, attack, defend or use items in order to fight your opponents.

Top 5 Upcoming RPGs of June 2019 (Bloodstained, Warhammer and More!)

An added feature to this traditional style of strategy is the “boost” option, this allows you to add increased attack power and combo it during your turn. If you enjoy retro themed games that use traditional turn-based combat with a modern twist, and enjoy a great storyline then this could be the game for you.

1. Shining Resonance Refrain

Release Date: July 10th, 2018

Developer: Sega

Shining Resonance Refrain sets to bring the originalJRPGthat was released on PS3 in Japan back in 2014 into the present for Western fans with updated graphics and some new features. The real timeaction RPGalso sets to include dual-language audio so you can choose between Japanese and English tracks even mid-game. Shining Resonance Refrain follows the adventure of swordsman Yuma, as he fights to stop the Empire from exploiting powers of the ancient dragons. By using the soul of the Shining Dragon within, Yuma with the aid of his friends will realise their destiny and save Astoria.

A new “Refrain mode” will allow players to experiment with the canon scenarios to create different outcomes. Players also have the option to build relationships with allies which will result in rewards that help impact the game. An interesting feature in the game is that all characters carry weapons that double as instruments, you can perform songs during a battle which can for example increase your party’s speed or make an enemy vulnerable to certain attacks.

The release comes with all previous DLCs and new content which unlocks two new characters Princess Excella and Dragonslayer Jinas. Originally only released in Japan, Shining Resonance Refrain sets to bring the whole package to the west for the first time this summer.

Shining Resonance Refrain will land on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC on July 10th 2018, but if you’re eager to play check out the demo which is free for download on all platforms.
