Morena Baccarin, the actor known for her role as Deadpool’s romantic partner Vanessa in the superhero franchise, is one of the few characters to appear throughout the entire series. While her character was essential to the story in the first film, Vanessa is only featured in a couple of scenes ofDeadpool & Wolverine, the most recent movie in the franchise. Baccarin has addressed this and shares that she was also disappointed at how short her screen time was. It definitely didn’t reflect what her character’s journey deserved.
Per Cinema Blend, Baccarin was on the podcastInside of You with Michael Rosenbaum, where she spoke about her career, the CBS spin-offSheriff Country, and reprising her role of Vanessa inDeadpool & Wolverine. The character, who is supposed tobecome the mutant Copycatat some point according to the comics, wasn’t a huge part of the film after she and Wade Wilson decided to call it quits. Nevertheless, Baccarin said that it was fun to return to the set, reunite with some of her colleagues, and meet Hugh Jackman:

“It was good. It was quick. It was good. I felt very much like my character lived in a very specific little universe in that film, and it was very secluded from the rest of the film, and we shot those scenes. It was lovely. I was with all the other cast members that I had worked with before and knew, and so that was really super fun and reconnecting with them was great. I got to meet Hugh [Jackman], who was lovely. It was really fun. It was very short and sweet.”
‘Deadpool & Wolverine’s Original Ending Would Have Had Major Consequences for the MCU
‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ nearly had a very different ending.
Baccarin mentions that Vanessa and Wade’s story is the “emotional core” of theDeadpoolfranchise, but she feels that, unfortunately, their arc was cut short. It issimilar to a complaint she hadwith the second film in the series:
“It was really interesting to me seeing the film how much you get out of such a short time on set. I don’t know if you got a chance to watch it, but the emotional core of the film is the relationship with these two people. I am his reason for being and for wanting to be a better person and for going on the journey that he goes on. Once again, same with the second film. It really is interesting because these are massive franchises and there are so many people who are the bosses of that job and who are going to decide to tell the story they want to tell.

“I think it’s really unfortunate that once again, the female character that is in the beginning of the story so much, then gets put as… the crux of it, the reason, the emotional arc but doesn’t have the screen time or the satisfying journey.”
Is There a Future for Deadpool Inside or Outside the MCU?
After the success ofDeadpool & Wolverine, a return of the iconic Marvel character seems inevitable. There’s just too much juice in the character, and the 2024 sequel became the highest-grossing R-rated film ever made. While no announcement has been made, Collider asked studio head Kevin Feige if there were plans tobring back the characterin another sequel, or another MCU project. His answer will give you a huge smile:
“There have absolutely been discussions. We’re in touch with Ryan [Reynolds] a lot. So the answer is yes.”
