We reported yesterday that the Black Adamcharacter fromShazam!, played byDwayne Johnson, may be included in the two-partJustice Leaguemovie. While the actor continues his promotional tour forFurious 7, he shared !, revealing that he doesn’t know who will play the title character yet, and that he thinks his character is an anti-hero. Here’s what he had to say below.
“I can’t wait to share more casting news by the way. No, we haven’t picked aShazam!yet, and we have been working on the script. Half the scripts [have] already come in. Fantastic, very excited about it. And what I’m really excited about is - because, again, I’ve lived with this character, and this opportunity for almost 10 years now, so it’s like, in my DNA! I’m like a little kid, and it’s the opportunity to create his journey, but that journey has to start out properly.”
The actor revealed that his character Black Adam starts out as slave, and will eventually evolve into becoming an anti-hero.
“And starting off properly is him not being a hero. That’s got to be earned, so he starts off as a slave. And he’s pissed off, and people are going to pay. But eventually down the line he’ll become an anti-hero.”
Fans are also curious about how filmmakers will approach the transformation of scrawny teenager Billy Baston to the superheroShazam!. When asked if the production will cast different actors for both Billy Baston and Shazam,Dwayne Johnsonhad this to say, teasing that they may use the same technology fromCaptain America: The First Avenger, whereChris Evanswas portrayed as a skinny Steve Rogers before he becomes Captain America.
“I’m not quite too sure yet what we will do. There’s a lot of opportunity, with technology, maybe do a cool face replacement like they did in Captain America. Maybe cast two separate actors, I’m not quite too sure.”
The project doesn’t have a director in place yet, butDarren Lemke(Jack the Giant Slayer,Turbo) is currently writing the screenplay. What do you think about these new developments? Who do you think should playShazam!? Let us know what you think below.
