Ryan Reynolds received the coveted ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ title from People magazine in 2010. He received the title the same week as his ex-wife, Scarlett Johansson, received the ‘Babe of the Year’ title from GQ magazine. Reynolds also starred in a stylish cover shoot for People. At the time, theFree Guyactor humorously remarked that his achievement didn’t seem to matter much to Johansson.

He mentioned that his then-wife would probably use the title at home to tell him to empty the garbage can. Interestingly, a month after being bestowed with the title, Reynolds and Johansson publicly announced their separation.

While Reynolds planned out different ways to include the title in conversations with strangers, he quipped that his wife would only address him as ‘Sexiest Man’ before asking him to take out the trash. Reynolds told People (via NY Post):

“The most difficult part is going to be organically working this title into a conversation with random strangers. This gives my family entrée into teasing me for the rest of my life. […] Now it’s going to be, ‘Sexiest man, take out the garbage.’ That does sound better.”
Despite the jokes, the chiseled 6 ft 2 in Reynolds was undoubtedly worthy of the title. At that time, Reynolds was also in the midst of unnecessary media attention due to rumored issues in his relationship with theLost in Translationactress. In an interview with GQ in October, theGreen Lanternactor commented that he was not interested in turning his relationship into a soap opera.

Rumors of troubles in their relationship started circulating in March 2010. Both Reynolds and Johansson publicly denied such rumors and urged the media to stop speculating about their private life. Reynolds was crowned Sexiest Man in November 2010, and in December, the couple formally announced their divorce.The Adam Projectactor shared in his official statement (via NY Post):
“After long and careful consideration on both our parts, we’ve decided to end our marriage. We entered our relationship with love and it’s with love and kindness we leave it. While privacy isn’t expected, it’s certainly appreciated.”
