Remember back in March of this year, when video game developer Psyonix made some waveswhen they announceda brand new car soccer (football) experience for mobile? That was some good news, especially for fans of the originalRocket Leaguethey’ve been playing on PC and consoles for years. Unfortunately, we didn’t know when, exactly, the game would launch. But, surprise! It’s here now.

Which means the mobile-focused car soccer experience is now live, across the globe, available for both iOS/iPadOS and Android. The title is a bit different than the PC and console version, especially in its visuals. Instead of offering up a fully 3D stadium,Rocket League Sideswipeis played in 2D.
There’s a catch, though. As noted today by9to5Google, the game’s official global launch is technically in “preseason.” The first official season is set to launch at some point in the future, but Psyonix isn’t going out of its way to say when that will be. Still, even in preseason, players can jump into the car soccer action right now and build up their skills before the first season starts.
The new game is a smaller affair compared to the original, namely in that it will host 1v1 or 2v2 matches that last about two minutes in length.Sideswipewill boast online multiplayer. It’s a free-to-play title, so you won’t need to buy the title outright to jump in.

Rocket League Sideswipewill feature mobile controls that are easy to pick up whether you’re a master ofRocket Leagueor a new player still learning your way around the field. Plus, there are advanced mechanics, just likeRocket League, for those who want to climb the Competitive Ranks. In the garage,Rocket League Sideswipewill have robust car customization similar toRocket League. Players can also expect an online Ranking system for competitive play. We have a lot more to reveal about the game in the coming months as we get closer to release.
This game looks like a ton of fun, especially with the matches being so short. A nice way to bounce in, play a couple on a commute or waiting for something else to start happening, and then be on your way.
