Square Enix announces the successor to Octopath Traveler, this time a strategic RPG called Project Triangle Strategy.

Project Triangle Strategy A Tactical RPG Successor to Octopath Traveler Announced

With lots of announcements from Nintendo Direct today, while there may have been a disappointment with no news forThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of Wild 2until later this year, one nice surprise was the announcement of Project Triangle Strategy (working title). You might find the “HD 2D” aesthetic and name quite familiar, as it is actually the successor toOctopath Traveler, which also had Project in the title when it was in development.

Project Triangle Strategy is a tactical RPG that is in the same genre as games such as Fire Emblem: Three Houses, which combines battle tactics and decision making, this time taking up moral choices. Gameplay will be played on a grid, attacking enemies and placing your characters with tactical positioning.

As for why it’s called Triangle Strategy? Well probably refers to the three ideals mentioned in the trailer, virtuous morality, liberty, and pragmatic utility. It may also refer to different mechanics to weigh up the strengths and weaknesses. The official Nintendo page shares you may position units on higher levels of ground, flank enemies, and even use elemental chain reactions such as melting icy terrains.

While the game won’t release until next year, a demo is now live on Nintendo eShop so you may check out some of gameplay.

You can find the official description below and the trailer:

Command a group of warriors as Serenoa, heir to the Kingdom of Glenbrook in a tangled plot where your decisions make all the difference. Key choices you make will bolster one of three convictions—Utility, Morality, Liberty—which together make up Serenoa’s world view and influence how the story will unfold. When faced with truly momentous decisions, multiple characters will weigh in by casting their votes on the Scales of Conviction. In these moments, the allies and decisions you make can determine the fate of whole nations and the continent of Norzelia itself.
