Some fans believe it’s a spoiler to announce who won’t be in any given franchise movie before its released. ButSamuel L. Jacksonhas never been too concerned about spoilers. And he wants fans to know he’s not inCaptain America: Civil War. This has been out for quite some time, and he’s not the only one absent. Thor and Hulk are sitting this latest Marvel adventure out as well. But they’re confirmed to return inThor: Ragnarok. Samuel L. Jackson, on the other hand? There have been some rumors that he’ll show up in next year’sThor 3. But that doesn’t sound possible, especially since it’s described as a ‘cosmic road trip comedy’ that takes place in the cosmos. Speaking withFandango,Jacksonanswers the question we’re all wondering. Where will Nick Fury strike next?
“I think I’m in Avengers 3 and 4, but I’m not in Civil War.”
So, we won’t seeNick FuryuntilAvengers: Infinity War Part I, which hits theaters summer 2018. This means he won’t be stopping by to recruit the Sorcerer Supreme in this November’sDoctor Strange. Nor will he show up in the 2017 releasesThor: RagnarokorGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. So, what will Nick Fury have been doing all of this time leading up to his big return inInfinity War? We don’t know, and it doesn’t sound likeSam Jacksonknows either. When asked if he’s on Team Captain America or Team Iron Man, the iconic actor states the following.
“Ahhhh, I don’t know. I haven’t given it much thought. I’m Nick Fury – Nick Fury is above all that.”
Nick Fury has never gotten his own standalone movie. He is more like the physical glue that keeps the entireMCUtogether. And he was last seen lingering around the shadows ofAvengers: Age of Ultron, showing up at Hawkeye’s quaint country farmhouse out of the blue. He fits into practically any Marvel movie, butSamuel L. Jackson, like the otherMarvel actors, is under a contract, and that contract is running out. Until he resigns, Marvel will wisely use him sparingly, where needed.
It is not yet know what kind of roleSam Jacksonwill have in Marvel Phase 3, which begins withCivil War. Some believed he’d be showing up inThor 3simply because he wrapped filming onKong: Skull Islandin Australia just as that Marvel sequel began shooting in the country. But it clearly makes no sense for him to show up in outer space, with almost none ofRagnaroktaking place on planet earth. While we’ll likely have to wait for Nick Fury to return in 2018’sInfinity War, its always possible that he could pop up in a Marvel post-credit scene before then. Fingers crossed.
