In a Figcampaign updatefor Wasteland 3, developer inXile Entertainment took some time to explain how the game’s Ranger Base hub will operate for players. If you’re new to the game, check out our in-depthPreview.
The Ranger Base will be the player’s home base in the frozen wastes of Colorado. As the only survivor of your team, you’ll be tasked alone with setting a foundation. You will have to recruit new Rangers from the local population and will have to make choices on the events of the game.

The base is not something that will have to be constantly micro-managed, instead it will be an integral part of the game’s story. During your time in the base, you will be presented with events and quests all determined by the choices you have made and they all have implications for the world at large. In the update, they cited a mediation between 2 factions, where the choice of who to side with depends on your values as a leader. In the example, choosing one faction over another would grant benefits such as access to weapons and materials, however placing yourself in the middle of the dispute will likely lead to future encounters and possible violence.
The Ranger Base will also have a central role in the brand new multiplayer mode, as it will be the location where you and your friend refill your supplies. You will additionally manage your companions here, bringing the Ranger Base full circle as your social hub.
