If there’s one thing the Tales series does exceptionally well, it’s to tell a good story. While it’s the main story players come for, it’s side quests and fun interactions with the characters that the players stay for. This has been something a lot of Tales games have been able to accomplish fairly well, andTales of Graces f Remasteredis no different.
Whether it’s interacting with your friends or helping someone in the world that’s in need, there are a lot of compelling stories to be told. One so happens to be tied directly to our stoic Hubert, although started from the most unlikely of sources.
Starting the Quest
To start this quest, you will need to progress the story to the point that you have Hubert in your party. This means you’ll have to complete theStrahta Desert Ruinsand talk to the president shortly after. When you do so, Hubert will finally join Asbel on his adventures, and doing so will allow you to unlock this short but sweet quest.
Head into town inYu Liberte, specifically the small shop you may have noticed when you first entered that was vacant. There will be a shop right next to it, but there seems to be a shop not operational and mainly used for storing boxes and barrels.
Now, though, there will be ayoung womanstanding a little gloomy in front of it. This is Marian, an old acquaintance of Hubert. This is a nice sneak peek at Hubert’s life after having left the Lhant family, maybe growing a little attached to this unique individual. Regardless, talk to her to start the quest.
Finding Marian’s Tools
After talking with Marian, she will give you some clues to where to find her missing tools: she dropped them somewhere in the desert. OK, that isn’t the best of clues, but one thing that should be noted is that Asbel makes an off-handed joke that maybe it was eaten by the Rockgagong. This is more of a diversion as, as much as you want to go look inside there, you’ll come up empty-handed.
Instead, head to the south exit of Yu Liberte and talk to the Turtlez. Teleport to the Strahta Desert and head west. Alternatively, you can exit out of the south exit of Yu Liberte and head east. Regardless, you’ll come to a large area filled with cacti and monsters roaming about, but you’ll notice one monster with a speech bubble above its head. Move close to initiate a battle. After the fight, the monsters will drop a bag, one that has all Marian’s Polishing Tools in it.
Return the tools to Marian in the Inn of Yu Liberte (via Request) and it will initiate the final cutscene which reveals that, while these tools are old and rusted, they hold sentimental value to Marian as it was Hubert who gave it to her many years ago. Not only does this quest reward you handsomely, but it also expands Hubert’s character significantly, showing another side than his seemingly cold exterior.
