The Flashstarring Ezra Miller in the titular role was quite an anticipated DC project despite the strings of controversies revolving around the leading actor. The film has been hyped up by the franchise for quite a long time with DC Studios co-CEO, James Gunn making the greatest-ever remark that for a moment hyped it up among the fans. But, the results are hardly resonating with his words.

After much struggle, the film finally crossed a box office number which is usually expected to achieve in its opening weekend especially when it is a massive project.

The Flashhas finally managed to cross the $250 million milestone towards the end of the fourth week of its theatrical run. The current worldwide gross collection stands at $261.6 million however it is more of a disappointment rather than an achievement. It is because the time travel epic was one of the major DC projects whose production cost went around $220 million. Not to forget, the franchise left no effort in its marketing which added up to $150 million.

In addition to that, the film had an ensemble cast that included Michael Keaton who reprised his Batman role along with Ben Affleck making the marketing quite strong on its own. Though their presence intrigued the fans, it was far from enough to save the dooming project. It has already enlisted itself among the biggest box office bombs in history which didn’t seem to fit with what DC Studios co-CEO, James Gunn initially bragged about.

Gunn has been singing praises of the DC project when it was closer to its release. He didn’t hold himself back from declaring Ezra Miller’s film among the greatest films ever made.Back in January this year, he stated,

“I will say here that Flash is probably one of the greatest superhero movies ever made.”

He continued to share how this film would“reset everything”for the franchise but looks like fans’ expectations from the franchise are the one thing getting reset after the film’s massive box-office disappointment.

As to why, it all happened, there were several problems attached to it. Few DC fans chose to boycott the project amid Miller’s ongoing controversies, which extremely affected its performance. But, they cannot be entirely credited for the disastrous theatrical run since the film has equally been panned for its screenplay and visual effects. These are some of the many reasons why the film was unable to reverberate with what fans anticipated.
