How to Translate Emails in Gmail Natively
Received an email in a language that you are not familiar with? Gone are the days when you have to copy the email and translate it via the Google Translate app every time. Now there is anative option on Gmailthat will help you translate emails from more than 100 languages. This feature is also powered by Google Translate and here’s how you can translate emails directly inside Gmail on both your desktop/laptop and phone.
How to Translate Emails in Gmail on Android and iPhone
1.Open the Gmail app on your phone and open the email that you want to translate.
2.On the email page, tap on thekebab menu (three-dot menu)beside the name of the sender. Then select theTranslateoption from the menu.
3.You should see a new translation bar below the name of the sender automatically detecting the language of the email and translating it to your regional language.
4.Tap on thecog iconon the right side of the translation bar. You will get the option to choose the language the email is in if the feature got it wrong.
5.You can also select the language to which the email has to be translated. Gmail supports more than 100 languages.
6.Once selected, the entire email will be translated into the chosen language.
7.To check the original email again, tap on theShow originaloption in the translation bar.
From now on, whenever you open any email in a different language, Gmail will show you the translation option at the top of the email. So that you may tap on it and translate the email to the one you prefer in a single tap.
How to Translate Emails in Gmail on PC and Mac
1.Open the Gmail website on your favorite browser and open an email you want to translate.
2.On the email page, click on thekebab menu (three-dot menu)beside the sender of the email and select theTranslate messageoption from the menu.
3.You should see the translate bar below the name of the sender. By default, it will automatically try to detect the text and update the language depending on your region.
4.To change the language manually, click on thecog iconin the translation bar. In the pop-up menu, you will get the option to choose the language of the email if it got it wrong.
5.There is a drop-down menu with all the languages it currently supports.
6.Once done, it will instantly translate the entire email to the selected language along with the email title. However, it will only translate the selected email rather than the entire entire thread. So if there are many replies, you need to translate every email manually.
7.To check the original email again, just click on theShow originaloption in the translation bar.
From now on when you receive any email other than in your preferred language, you will get a translation shortcut under the sender’s name to instantly translate.
Translate Emails in a Snap
Previously, there was no option to instantly translate an email. Even though Google owns both Gmail and Google Translate, we have to manually use both services to get the work. However, finally, the feature arrived onGmailwhich is already long overdue. Now the translate option also supports more than 100 languages and works as expected. But it will not translate text from images as of now which should also be integrated with their Google Lens tech.
