Ghost of Yōteiis the sequel to the award-winningGhost of Tsushimahas been unveiled during the latest State of Play with a first trailer packed with samurai action. It will arrive on PS5 in 2025, and we have plenty of details.
Ghost of Yōtei Is Real
Without a doubt, the biggest surprise of the entireState of Play, and the game chosen to close the event, wasGhost of Yōtei. As you may have guessed from the name, it is the sequel toGhost of Tsushima, the open-world samurai game developed bySucker Punch.
There had been rumors that the American studio was deep in the development of Ghost of Tsushima 2, but there were no leaks or last-minute rumors, unlike other announcements, making it a big surprise to discover Ghost of Yōtei.

It was a long trailer, about three minutes in length, which revealed a few details about this new and highly anticipated adventure. Among them, one of the most notable is that Jin Sakai will not be the protagonist: instead, Ghost of Yōtei will be led by a female samurai named Atsu.
The Sequel to Ghost of Tsushima for PS5
One of the first details revealed by the trailer, which could already be deduced from the name change, is that this sequel takes place on Mount Yōtei, in the year 1603, a region in the north of Japan where people go “to disappear,” as mentioned by the first man we see in the trailer.
However, Atsu, the samurai protagonist played by actress Erika Ishii, is there to hunt (most likely a person or people), which has led all the Ronin in Japan to come after her head.

The trailer presents several sequences with beautiful landscapes, especially featuring views with Mount Yōtei in the background. All of this is accompanied by an energetic shamisen melody, a traditional Japanese instrument. The instrument seems to play an important role both in the story and the gameplay, as we see the protagonist with one strapped to her back.
Speaking of new features, this trailer hints that, in addition to the horse, inGhost of Yōteiwe will be accompanied by a wolf.

Finally, the trailer gives us a brief glimpse of two new weapons: the kusarigama and a flintlock rifle. And more importantly: Ghost of Yōtei will be available for PS5 in 2025.
