Forspoken and its 3rd Deep Dive video explore Athia and the various tasks and activities that players can engage in.

Forspoken Goes Deep into the Optional Activities that Athia Has to Offer

Visitors of Athia have been teased quite frequently by Square Enix on the upcoming Action Adventure. Despite beingdelayed into 2023, the title is generating a lot of buzz in recent weeks.

Newly released by the Publisher is the third entry into the deep dive video series. This time, we get to join Frey and see the various activities she can join in on, and what else she can do in Forspoken besidescombat and parkour.

Massive Bosses in Forspoken’s Combat Challenges

Taking the Fight to Forspoken

Okay, we lied. Combat is truly quite a large part of Forspoken, and consideringhow good the magic system looks, we can’t complain.

Combat Challenges

The first activity is called the “Combat Challenges”. These are some of the most exciting optional activities in Forspoken. Despite having the most generic name, these challenges contain the most awe-inspiring bosses that are of massive scale.

The corrupting Break has created many abominations that unfortunately are trapped in the world, sowing chaos and destruction in their wake. Think Shadow of the Colossus level of massive creatures that Frey will need to face.

Locked Labyrinths Ain’t So Secret, Huh

The bosses of these Combat Challenges are extremely difficult optional bosses. Slaying them will prove to be no easy feat, even for an extremely prepared Frey. Once discovered, Frey can choose to leave them alone for the time being and come back to them later once she’s much, much stronger.

The Locked Labyrinths

Next up in Forspoken are the Locked Labyrinths. Hidden chambers buried deep underground, forgotten almost by all. These are sprawling underground dungeons with multiple paths.

Players’ combat and parkour skills will both be tested in some of the most difficult Locked Labyrinths.

Cleanse the Monument for Great Justice!

Monuments and Flashbacks

Monuments are gigantic statues or other relics of the past that contain some of the corrupted Tanta’s power. Frey can attempt to free these structures from corruption and make use of their magic for herself.

Each monument will confer a different kind of bonus stat to Frey when they are cleaned. Some can increase Frey’s damage, others give more health, and there are those that can bolster her defense.

Flashback Flashback

Some of the ancient monuments scattered across the lands of Forspoken have Flashbacks associated with them. True to their moniker, Flashbacks will propel Frey back into the past, at an important time in history.

Frey can see the world when it was, and experience things there as well. Each Flashback is an additional challenge that can be undertaken and will reward players with more Mana.

Activate Spellcraft Challenges in any Refuge

Mana in Forspoken is used to unlock more spells, so it is important to seek out and best these Flashbacks.

Of Might, Magic, and Furry Things

Of course, exploration will be a huge part of this game as well. The game’s excellent parkour system would go to waste if there weren’t things hidden out in plain sight, just ripe for Forspoken players to find and collect.

Spellcraft Challenges

These Challenges are optional tasks that can be taken at any Refuge (basically a safe camp that has been abandoned, perfect for Frey to take over). Ancient Tomes in these Refuges can detail various challenges that Frey can undertake in order to enhance her magical abilities.

Challenges can be anything from using a parkour ability in a certain way or a specific number of times. It can also be combat-related, like hitting a specific number of enemies with one spell.

Aside from enhancing her skills, the Spellcraft Challenges in Forspoken also lead players into experimenting with abilities that they might not usually have picked or integrated into their arsenal.

Founts of Blessing

Founts (not to be confused with Fountains) of Blessing are pools of blessed water. Bathing in the magical waters of a Fount will grant Frey a new spell, making these another commodity that must be sought out immediately.

While the Founts have resonance (an audible or visual sign that there’s one nearby), it will be up to Frey to uncover where the pool is exactly. It shouldn’t be too hard for our magical parkour girl, right?

Old Coins and Trading

Hidden throughout the world are various Old Coins that can be collected. These little trinkets are situated in chests or other landmarks off the beaten path. Collecting these and handing them to a special NPC will grant various crafting bonuses and other enhancements.

Aside from this, some NPCs will also request a menagerie of items. If Frey can obtain and deliver these, she can be handsomely rewarded.

Photo Spots, Familiars, and Partha

Partha is Athia’s answer to dice games. This simple minigame can be played in taverns and pubs. Basically, Frey throws around some dice made out of ancient animal bones with special symbols. Each symbol represents a different kind of timed buff that will temporarily increase Frey’s combat prowess.

Next up are Familiars, small cats that Frey can definitely pet and cuddle with. However, actually getting close to these critters will be the first challenge. Since they’re magical cats, they can teleport around and evade you as they will initially distrust any stranger. It will be up to Frey to find out how best to befriend these creatures.

Last, but not least, are Photo Spots. In order to truly appreciate the beautiful landscapes that Athia has to offer, Frey has the option to snap a picture with her phone. Don’t ask how she can maintain a charge. These photos can then be shown to kids who don’t have iPhones, making them jealous of your adventures (and magical rectangle), and will also unlock more photo mode features for the player.
