The sequel toCyberpunk 2077will include a second city, according to Mike Pondsmith, the creator of theCyberpunkuniverse—though Night City, the setting of the original game, will still be featured.

Cyberpunk 2077 Sequel Reveals New Details at Event

Mike Pondsmith, the creator of the Cyberpunk universe and founder of R. Talsorian Games, revealed new details about the upcoming sequel during his appearance at theDigital Dragons 2025 event.

At the event, Pondsmith mentioned that while he’s not as directly involved as he was with the original game, he’s still closely following its creative development. He appears to have let an important detail slip by talking about one of the new game’s locations.

Two Cities Confirmed for the Sequel

Mike Pondsmith explained his role inProject Orion (the codename for the project). As the creator of the RPG that inspired the saga, he’s responsible for reviewing all aspects of the game.

This includes analyzing the scripts, approving new cyberware for the sequel, and maintaining close contact with various departments. One of those departments is the world-building team, with whom Pondsmith works closely.

This connection has given him firsthand knowledge that the sequel will feature two cities.

Night Citywill return as the main setting, and alongside it, Pondsmith hinted that we’ll visit a new city with a very different tone.

According to him, this second location will be “a version of Chicago where everything went wrong,” in contrast to the vibrant, Blade Runner-styleNight City.

Mike couldn’t share more details, except to say that the environment team is “on the right track” in terms of what they’re aiming to convey with the new location.

A More Ambitious Sequel on All Fronts

Pondsmith’s comments align with what CD Projekt has already shared—that the newCyberpunkwill be a much more ambitious game, both technically and narratively.
