In a recent interview with Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt Red and VGC during theTokyo Game Show 2019, they share more about the choice to have first-person perspective.

CD Projekt Red Share More on First-Person Perspective

Earlier this month CD Projekt Red confirmed that the upcoming sci-fi RPGCyberpunk 2077wouldset in first-personfor gameplay pretty much throughout the game, but players can catch glimpses of their characters while driving in mirrors or in certain cutscenes.

In a recent interview forVGC, level designer at CD Projekt Red Max Pears explained that this choice was not taken lightly and “a lot of thought” went into this decision and that includes the overall effect that it has on the experience:

PlayStation 4

I hope people understand that we have thought about this and there is logic to our process. We’ve not just thrown this in randomly: there is a lot of thought that’s gone into it.

In last year’s demo you saw the interactive dialogue system, where somebody pulled a gun on your face. I don’t think you would necessarily get that same impact in third-person.

PC

It’s moments like that which make it feel like it’s your story and your character.

Withmultiplayeralso in the works, it will be interesting how first-person perspective will work with this.

Cyberpunk 2077will release on PC, PS4 and Xbox One on April 16th 2020.
