They’re robots in disguise. They’re iconic machines. They’re marketable. They’reTransformers. Though the models, adaptations, and lore may change for every generation, the stories will always be about the heroic Autobots waging a never-ending war against the nefarious forces of the Decepticons. That, and Starscream being Megatron’s punching bag.
6 Best Godzilla Video Games
Prepare to stomp through Tokyo, because it’s time for the best Godzilla games!
It’s why the Transformers name has lasted long since the 80s, with a treasure trove ofcartoons, toys, comic books, and movies. As with all bestselling franchises, video games were inevitable. But there’s a thin line between being a classic and being a memory. So, let’s find out which Transformers game was made of sterner stuff.

Unfortunately, a number of these games have been delisted because of Hasbro licensing.
10Transformers: Galactic Trials
Arcade Style Combat Racer
Transformers: Galactic Trials
The Transformers are off to the races. Galactic Trials plays a little like Mario Kart. You race across various racetracks featuring obstructions, pits, and sharp turns as you drive through special glowing objects to activate special moves. Except here, you may transform and combat other opponents in third-person combat.
That’s right, you’re able to shoot at other racers in robot form, then leave them in the dust by changing into your alt form. It’s a fun time killer, the graphics and lighting look decent, and if you’re a hardcore Transformers fan, you’ll get some joy playing as your favorite character. You can even customize them with new skins and abilities as you progress. However, juggling the shooting mechanics with the racing can be tricky since you’re slower in robot mode. Plus, racing on higher difficulty can be relentless, depending on the Transformer you’re using.

9Beast Wars: Transformers (PS1)
A Game That’s Just Prime
July 02, 2025
Sony Computer Entertainment Europe
Hasbro Interactive
Third-Person Shooter
PlayStation, PC
Primus bless the 90s for all its glorious and cheesy creations, including Beast Wars. Because of its popularity, a video game was released in 1997 for the original PlayStation. By modern standards, the third-person shooter gameplay and graphics have aged worse than beryllium baloney, but at the time, Beast Wars: Transformers had a lot to offer.
The game is split into two campaigns between the Maximals and Predacons, featuring six playable characters for each side. While every character possesses their own robot mode and beast mode, they also have varying stats that will impact how they play in combat. Some can run faster, some can take more damage, and some can dish out more damage. It’s interesting to note that this was also the first Transformers video game to feature voice acting. It wasn’t great, but there you go.

8Transformers Animated: The Game
Rolling Out on the Go
July 28, 2025
Behaviour Interactive
Activision
Platformer, Puzzle, Racer
Released only for the Nintendo DS and based on the 2007 cartoon series, Transformers Animated: The Game is not the most groundbreaking product to bear the license. However, as a portable Transformers video game, this one was fairly good.
With Megatron and his forces hunting for the lost fragments of the Allspark, it’s up to the Autobots to stop them. The game is more about using your wits than about busting up Decepticons. Each level is divided into sections that focus on platforming, racing, and puzzle-solving. Throughout the game, you switch between playing as Optimus Prime, Bulkhead, and Bumblebee, and each character has their own unique skills for progressing through the level. Sorry, Decepticon Fans, this game is all Autobots.

7Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
Into The Bayverse
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
Fans have conflicting opinions when it comes to the Micheal Bay films. However, this isn’t about theTransformers flicks, this is about the licensed adaptation of the second movie in the Bayverse: Revenge of the Fallen. The story follows the movie, with each level taking place during specific events, and players have the option to play as either the Autobots or the Decepticons.
10 Best Movie Licensed Video Games
It’s time to roll film as we bring you the best video games based on Hollywood’s biggest films!
The controls feel good, the shooting is great, and it’s just fun stomping through levels—you can even climb buildings and structures as you feel like a giant in a massive city. As the Decepticons, it’s all about mindless destruction, whereas with the Autobots, it’s about saving humans and stopping your foe. As far as movie-licensed games go, Revenge of the Fallen was better than it had any right to be.

6Transformers: Forged To Fight
One Big Box of Toys
June 24, 2025
Fighter, RPG
Transformers: Forged To Fight feels like a game that happened after a kid took a bunch ofHasbrotoys from different generations and started bashing them together in make-believe fights. It’s insane, messy, and an ingenious concept. After crashing onto a mysterious world, Optimus Prime and his comrades are forced to combat corrupted Autobots and Decepticons from across different timelines.
The gameplay boils down to two characters on a single screen fighting using combos while dodging. However, what makes it fun is the number of fighters you get to play as. Forged To Fight not only includes the Transformers models from G1 but also features characters from Beast Wars and even the live-action films. Plus, every fighter is broken up into classes with advantages and disadvantages in combat: Warrior, Brawler, Scout, Tech, Demolitions, and Tactician. Not bad for a mobile game.
Though the original game was delisted, another version was brought back by Netflix with some changes, including the removal of the live-action movie characters.
5Transformers Prime: The Game
Something, Something, Darkest Hour
Transformers: Prime - The Game
Another game based on another hit show. After the Autobots become separated, Megatron dispatches his forces to hunt them down. With the aid of their human comrades, Optimus Prime and his team must reunite if they’re to defeat a new threat that endangers not only the Earth but also the Autobot Matrix of Leadership.
Transformers Prime: The Game is a brawler with some shooting and driving mechanics thrown in. The story even unveils a new character, Thunderwing, a disciple of Unicron. The graphics do a good job in trying to capture the cartoon’s art style well, and it also helps that it has the voice cast from the show, including the unforgettablePeter Cullen. The combat may lose its luster after a while, but if you’re a diehard fan of Transformers Prime, you’ll enjoy seeing your favorite characters battling Decepticons.
4Transformers (PS2)
A Game That Has The Touch
June 29, 2025
Atari Melbourne House
PlayStation
Released for the PlayStation 2 and set in the universe of Transformers: Armada, this game is an utter blast. After being dormant for millions of years, the Mini-Cons have started to awaken on Earth, and the Decepticons have come to use their power to conquer Cybertron. With the Mini-Cons and Earth in danger, the Autobots pursue their enemy.
You can choose to play as Optimus Prime, Hot Shot, or Red Alert, and every character features varying combat stats. You roam large and impressive-looking environments, blasting enemy Decepticons while searching for Mini-Cons. The gameplay uses the little machines well, and like in the show, each Mini-Con unlocks a hidden power to use in-game: new abilities, weapons, and upgrades. The game’s ragdoll physics may not have aged well and can be annoying at times, but that’s a minor nitpick for what’s a great game.
3Transformers: War For Cybertron
Fight For Freedom or Tyranny
Transformers: War for Cybertron
For eons, Transformers fans have been dying to experience the historic Cybertron War. No Earth. No Earthlings. Just Transformers battling on their home planet. In War For Cybertron, Megatron plans to use Dark Energon to infect the core of Cybertron and destroy the Autobots. To stop him, Optimus Prime must assume the mantle of leadership and save his world.
The game lets players see the war from both sides, allowing you to choose your character for each level. As a third-person shooter, the game also supports co-op, though only up to three players. The combat and transformations are great, even if some of the boss fights get tedious from overusing the tactic:shoot the weak point until you win. The only other downside is that since you can only choose between three Transformers for every level, you and your friends will be fighting over who plays who. Dibs on Soundwave!
2Transformers: Fall of Cybertron
“Metroplex Heeds the Call of The Last Prime”
August 05, 2025
High Moon Studios
Xbox, PlayStation, PC
The core has shut down. Cybertron is dying. It’s become a battle for survival on all fronts. The Autobots fight to escape their doomed world, while the treacherous Decepticons plot to destroy their enemy and prepare to invade a primitive world rich in resources: Earth. Fall of Cybertron is one big single-player adventure as the story follows multiple Autobots and Decepticons.
Each character possesses unique abilities to use in combat, and many are given a fair share of the spotlight, including powerhouses like Metroplex, Bruticus, and Grimlock. Not only is the combat and graphics fantastic, but the animations on the weapons and transformations are outstanding. You can even enhance weapons and purchase upgrades. This also has one of the best Transformers stories, one that captures the bleakness and futility of the Cybertron War, leading to a climatic battle between Optimus Prime and Megatron.
1Transformers: Devastation
A Game That’s More Than Meets the Eye
Transformers: Devastation
Transformers: Devastation is not only an underrated gem fromPlatinumGamesbut one of the best Transformers games of all time. The whole adventure is like experiencing your own G1-style cartoon. Devastation even sees the return of various voice actors from the original cartoon, including the iconic Peter Cullen andFrank Welker. Switching between five Autobots, you’re free to play as Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Sideswipe, Wheeljack, and Grimlock.
Each Transformer wields a wide range of attacks and can even use their alt forms for chaining combos. Some fans might be disappointed that you don’t get to play as the Decepticons, but Devastation makes up for it by using them in epic confrontations. As for the music, the whole soundtrack is like the 80s and 90s joined forces to bring out the best of all genres. The entire game plays like Metal Gear Rising: fast and fluid combat, challenging fights, phenomenal music, and amazing boss battles.
This wasn’t an easy choice. If it were possible, Fall of Cybertron and Devastation would share the same spot at number one. Both are outstanding games, deserving of love and attention.
