Best Hunting Horn Skills in MHWilds- In Monster Hunter Wilds, the satisfying gameplay loop of hunting monsters to get loot to craft stronger gear to hunt stronger monsters makes a grand return. And with this grand return also comes the return of a variety of skills that comes with the equipment you will be forging and using in your hunts.
In Monster Hunter Wilds,there are a total of 148 skills that have unique effects and each one of them is helpful in a particular aspect when you are playing the game. A lot of the skills that were in the previous games make a return with a few new added skills.
The biggest change to skills in Monster Hunter Wilds is that some of the Equipment skills that were on the armor pieces in the previous games have been moved to the weapons. This particular change makes it so that you will not be locked into specific monster trees when using a particular weapon.

Although the hunting horn is the support player’s weapon of choice in a hunting party, the weapon is still very powerful when you are hunting alone as it offers a wide variety of buffs and it can deal a respectable amount of blunt damage on its own. The best skill for Hunting Horn are skills that enhance these aspects of the weapon and will let you perform your way through your hunts.

The best skill to have in your loadout when using the hunting horn includes the Horn Maestro, Bludgeoner, Slugger , Flinch Free , Earplugs and Inspiration skills.The Horn Maestro, Slugger are equipment skills that can be found on the weapons and the Flinch Free and Earplugs are skills that are found on the armor pieces. The Bludgeoner skill is a decoration exclusive skill that can only be found on a weapon jewel and the Inspiration skill, is a group skill that can be gained after wearing a set amount of armor pieces from specific armor sets.
The Horn Maestro skill is the best skill for the Hunting Horn as it increases the effect duration of hunting horn melodies. Since the Hunting Horn’s mechanic centers around the melodies, this skill is irreplaceable when you are using the Hunting Horn.
The Slugger skill increases the stunning power of your attacks and at the max level, level 3, this skill increases your stunning power by up to +40%. This skill works amazingly with the Hunting Horn as the horn can deal a respectable amount of blunt damage to the monster while you are stocking up your notes with your combos and can also stun the monster if you focus on hitting the head.
The Bludgeoner skill ,is adecoration exclusiveskill that increases your attack power when your sharpness is low and at the max level, it will increase your attack power by 10% when your sharpness gauge is green or lower. But this skill can only activate in the later parts of your hunts especially when using the rarity 8 Hunting Horns as most of them will have white and blue levels of sharpness before you reach the green level.
There are a couple of trees that offer Hunting Horns with both Slugger and Horn Maestro as their inherent skill but you are not necessarily limited to using these trees when using the weapon. You can utilize the decorations slots on the weapons to mix and match these skills with other skills you might want to use with the Hunting Horn.
The next skill flinch free is an armor piece equipment skill, which prevents knockbacks and other reactions to small damage. At the max level, level 3, the skill will prevent all forms of knockbacks and tripping and this is useful for the Hunting Horn because you will be less likely to get interrupted while you are stocking up on your notes for the melody you want to use.
The earplugs skill grants protection from the monster’s roars and at level 3, it nullifies the effects of both the weak and strong monster roars. This skill will prevent you from getting interrupted while you are stringing together your notes to stock up on specific melodies that you want to perform.
Lord’s Favor/Inspiration -is a group skill that requires at least 3 armor pieces that share in this group in order to activate it.The skill when activated, temporarily increases the attack power when using Melody effects that affect companions in range (example, attack up, defense up).This skill can be gained by having any 3 pieces of the alpha variant of the Apex Predator’s armor set, the Jhin Dahaad, the Uth Duna, the Rey Dau and the Nu Udra armor sets.
These skills enhance the unique gameplay of the Hunting Horn by making the buffs and the effects of the myriad of melodies the Hunting Horn can perform making them the best skills to have in your loadout when using the Hunting Horn.
Second Best Tier skills for the Hunting Horn
This next set of skills will help the Hunting Horn user in some aspects, depending on what type of playstyle they wish to focus more on, either they are playing solo or with a hunting party.
Weakness Exploit-The Weakness Exploit skill increases the affinity when attacking weak parts of the monster and increases the affinity even further when you are hitting the wounds or destroying the wounds. This can increase the damage output when you are using the Hunting Horn considerably as the Hunting Horn has a special rhythm mini-game when you perform a focus strike, being able to stock notes as you strum across the Horn like a Guitar, the damage you deal at the end of the attack depends on the amount of notes you were able to stock up on during the attack. Stocking up the maximum five notes during the attack will end in a huge damaging attack at the end.
The next skill, the Partbreaker, is a skill that increases the damage you will be doing to the weak parts of the monster,for example, the head and the tail, and also increases the damage you do when you destroy the wounds inflicted on the monster during the hunt. Similar to the weakness exploit skill, this skill has the potential to deal massive amounts of damage if you are able to stock up five notes during the focus attack.
If you are looking for a more offensive play style when playing the Hunting Horn, you’re able to easily use the above mentioned armor skills of Weakness Exploit and Partbreaker, for maximum damage output during your hunts.
Wide-Range
Wide-Range -The wide range skill allows the effects of certain items to also affect nearby allies and at the max level, level 5, this skill has a huge radius and your allies will also receive the full efficacy of the item you have used (such as Potions, Antidotes, Demon Drug).
The speed eating skill increases your item consumption speed, making you go through animation much faster. At the max level, the speed is near instantaneous and this will prevent you from getting locked in animation, unable to perform your notes or melodies.
If you are going for a more support centric play style when using the Hunting Horn, the Wide-Range and Speed-Eating skills are amazing as you will be able to support the party with not only your melodies and Echo Bubbles but also items as well letting you be the ultimate support player in your hunting party.
These skills do not directly impact the play style of the Hunting Horn but if you have free decoration slots or a flexible armor piece in your loadout, they are decent to have when using the Hunting Horn
The free meal skill is for the support player using items and having this skill will give you a predetermined chance of consuming a food or drink item for tree without using it up and it has a 45% chance of activation at level 3, the max level.
The Defense Boostskill will provide you with amazing defensive value if you find yourself getting hit by the monster more often than you would like during your performances..The +35 defensive boost and another total +10% increase to your total defense value in addition to the +5 elemental resistance will make you a lot more durable and help with your overall survivability during your hunts.
The next skill, Elemental Absorption will increase your elemental attacks and resistance to the element damage you have taken during your hunt. This is generally a good skill to have since it will boost both your offensive and defensive stats.
