Best Heavy Bowgun Skills in MHWilds- In Monster Hunter Wilds, the satisfying gameplay loop of hunting monsters to get loot to craft stronger gear to hunt stronger monsters makes a grand return. And with this grand return also comes the return of a variety of skills that comes with the equipment you will be forging and using in your hunts.

In Monster Hunter Wilds, there are a total of 148Skillsthat have unique effects and each one of them is helpful in a particular aspect when you are playing the game. A lot of the skills that were in the previous games make a return with a few new added skills.

Monster Hunter Wilds

The biggest change to skills in Monster Hunter Wilds is that some of the Equipment skills that were on the armor pieces in the previous games have been moved to the weapons. This particular change makes it so that you will not be locked into specific monster trees when using a particular weapon.

In this guide, we will be taking a look at the skills that will bring out the Heavy Bowgun’s full potential during your hunts. Being close cousins, both the Light Bowgun and Heavy Bowgun benefit from a lot of the same skills.

PC

TheHeavy Bowgunis the more powerful and slower cousin of the two bowguns and as such its strength lies in careful positioning and having a good trigger discipline where the hunter is able to quickly perform a perfect guard or an ignition counter to prevent the monster’s attack from hitting them. As such, the best skills for the Heavy Bowgun are those that will increase the strength of the weapon to bring out its full potential during your hunts.

Best Heavy Bowgun Skills in MHWilds

The best tier skills to have in your loadout when using the Heavy Bowgun include Ballistics, Special Ammo Boost, Opening Shot,Guard, Burst,Partbreaker Evade Extender and Evade window. The Ballistics, Special Ammo Boost, Opening Shot and Guard are equipment skills found on the weapons and Burst,Partbreaker, Evade Extender and Evade Window are skills found on armor pieces.

Ballistics

The reason the Ballistics skill is the best skill for the Heavy Bowgun is simply because it extends the effective range of the Heavy Bowgun. When using the Heavy Bowgun, the hunter will want to stay as far as possible away from the monster but will have to stay within the optimal range of the weapon to be effective when hunting. The Ballistics skills will widen the distance between the hunter and the monster by increasing the effective range of the Heavy Bowgun giving more room to dodge out of the way when the monster attacks.

Special Ammot Boost

The special ammo boost skill is one of the best skills to have on the Heavy Bowgun because it will increase the damage of your special ammo. The Heavy Bowgun differs from the Light Bowgun in that its alternate mode, the ignition mode, allows the weapon to use two different types of special ammo depending on how the player has the bowgun customized at the smithy. These special ammos are more often than not, the main source of damage when using the Heavy Bowgun and this skill will increase your overall damage output as it will increase the power of all four types of special ammo available to the Heavy Bowgun.

Opening Shot

The next skill, opening shot, increases the bowgun’s reload speed and increases the power of the bullets when fully loaded. Although this increase in power is substantial, it will only affect the first bullet per magazine but this can accumulate in a huge increase in overall damage across the entire duration of the hunt.

The next skill, Guard , is also good for the Heavy Bowgun player who wants more defensive options as it reduces the knockbacks and stamina depletion of your guards. Since the Heavy Bowgun has the ability to auto guard if you are not in the middle of any action at the time of the attack, and also manually guard to perform perfect guards, this skill will really help when guarding using the Heavy Bowgun.

Although there are no Heavy Bowguns that have a combination of all these skills on the weapon, it is still possible to use all these skills simultaneously using the decoration slots and the jewels available.

The next skill Burst is an equipment skill that gives your attacks a temporary increase in attack value with an additional increase after the fifth strike. This works well with the Heavy Bowgun, especially when using the Wyvernheart ignition special ammo in the ignition mode as you will be firing a machine gun at the monster times easily hitting more than five shots within seconds. Even in the standard mode, you may hit the monster quite rapidly because the normal ammo type fires multiple shots and this skill will allow you to rapidly increase your attack power using the Heavy Bowgun.

Partbreaker

The Partbreaker skill increases the damage you will be doing to the weak parts of the monster, for example, the head and the tail, making it easier to break them and also increases the damage you do when you destroy the wounds inflicted on the monster during the hunt. This skill is outstanding for the Heavy Bowgun as you will be aiming for the Monster’s weak point most of the time, increasing your overall damage. And the additional 30% increase in damage when using the Focus strike will deal huge amounts of damage.

Evade Extender

The evade extender skill increases the distance of your evades and for the Light Bowgun, the increase in distance is really helpful as you need as much room as you can to maneuver yourself around the monster and its attacks while you are laying down the fire.

Evade Window

The evade window skill increases the invulnerability window of your evades and it will give you more safety with your dodges when using the Light Bowgun

TheEvade ExtenderandEvade Windowskills are good to have when using a Light Bowgun as they are especially helpful against larger monsters which have huge multi-hit attacks that can cover a wide portion of the arena you are fighting in. Having these skills will provide you with more breathing room when dodging the monster’s attacks.

Although it can be a little challenging to put these skills together, the flexibility offered by the decoration slots and the talisman slot will allow you to have all these skills in your loadout when using the Heavy Bowgun.

This set of skills are not necessarily the best skills to have when using the Heavy Bowgun but will help enhance specific aspects of the weapon.

The Tetrad shotskillis a skill that increases the affinity of the shots of your Heavy Bowgun up to two levels after the fourth and the sixth shots.Since most of the default ammo count per magazine for different ammo types vary between three and five shots without any of the boost from the customization mod slots, the skill is useful for very specific types of ammo with at least six shots per magazine .But this specific requirement to set this up is the reason why this skill is in the second best tier.

The Artillery skill increases thestrength of explosive attacks and for the Heavy Bowgun, it increases the power of the wyvernblast shots, wyverncounter ignition and the sticky ammo. But this skill will only affect those ammo types making it land in the Tier II category.

Quick Sheathe

The next skill, quick sheathe, greatly increases your weapon sheathing speed and this can be really good for the Heavy Bowgun as the weapon has one of the slowest weapon sheathing speed in the game. Having this skill will help in instances where you quickly need to sheathe your weapon and dodge out of the way of the monster’s huge attacks you will not be able to block.

Stamina Surge

Next we have the Stamina Surge skill. This skill increases the Stamina Recovery speed up to 50% at the highest level, level 3 and this is useful for the Light Bowgun user. Having this skill in your loadout will help with the overall mobility when using the Heavy Bowgun because the stamina bar will regenerate a good amount in between your guards and dodges while you are firing at the monster minimizing the chance of.your stamina running out the moment you need to evade.

These skills are not the best but they will still be able to help players when using the Heavy Bowgun if you have a free decoration slot or in the talisman slot.

The Guard Up skill increases the level of your guard, making it possible to guard against attacks that were previously unblockable, such as roars and tremors and it also reduces the incoming damage of bigger attacks by up to 80% at the max level, level 3. This skill can help with defending against attacks when using the Heavy Bowgun but it is generally more favourable to dodge than guard in most situations.

Weakness Exploit

The Weakness Exploit Skill will increase the affinity of your attacks that hit the monster’s weak spots and increase the affinity even further when hitting or destroying the wounds. When using the Heavy Bowgun, you will be aiming for the monster’s head and weak points such as wings and tails with your shots for the majority of the time. This will result in an overall larger number of critical hits and once you use your Focus strike to destroy the wounds, the increased affinity will enable you to deal huge amounts of damage. This skill works really well if you are going for a more affinity based loadout, but is too situational to use with other skills to be in the best tier of skills

Ebony Odogaron’s Power/Burst Boost

Ebony Odogaron’s Power/Burst Boostis a set bonus skill that will activate if you have a set amount of the Guardian Ebony armor set equipped. Although this skill itself will further enhance theBurstskill, which is in the best tier,by increasing its duration and attack power, it requires specific armor pieces to be equipped, locking you into a specific armor part.

So, these are the best skills to use with the Heavy Bowgun in bringing out its full potential in my humble opinion. I hope you find this helpful.
