With Assassin’s Creed Shadowsdelayed multiple timesand encountering controversies even before its release, it would have been easy for gamers to write it off as a lost cause.

That doesn’t seem to be the case, as in less than 24 hours since launch, Assassin’s Creed Shadows has already amassed over a million players.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows Aims To Prove Doubters Wrong

Ubisoft announced this news today on Twitter/X, where the publisher thanked gamers for supporting the latest entry in the franchise.

There’s no breakdown of player demos, but based onSteam Charts, which has AC Shadows at just 41,000 at its peak, I wouldn’t be surprised to see most players are gaming on the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

It’s worth noting that the game is also available on Ubisoft Connect, though I highly doubt it has ten times the players as Steam.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows Is A Much Needed Win For Ubisoft

This is excellent news for Ubisoft, given the publisher’s last AAA title, Star Wars Outlaws, underperformed commercially.

To put things in perspective, Star Wars Outlaws didn’t get a million players in its first week, let alone its first day (if it did, Ubisoft would have announced it, same as AC Shadows). Not only thatbut on Steam, the game peaked at 3,397 players.

Again, this doesn’t factor in the player numbers for Ubisoft Connect or consoles, but even if you multiply the Steam numbers by 10, it still paints a dire picture – especially since it has the Star Wars license to carry it.

Despite this, it’s a thoroughly enjoyable entry into the series for fans seeking to explore medieval Japan.”
